Check out this great video created for the Holden Beach Community Alliance.
The Holden Beach Fishing Pier has been an integral part of the history and memories of the community since 1959. In fact, this was the location of the first voting poll for the town of Holden Beach. This beloved landmark not only serves as a hub for recreational activities, but also contributes significantly to the local economy by attracting people who love to fish. However, in recent years, we have seen this iconic pier fall into disrepair. It's heartbreaking to see such an important part of our community neglected. The pier is not just a structure; it's a symbol of our shared history and love for the beach.
A good story from the past is always better on a wooden pier with the wind blowing in your face, looking across the top rail at the ocean. However, the purpose of our organization and the pier project is not simply to reflect on the past, or even the present, but what lies ahead. While we value the history of the pier and the memories it holds in our hearts, we must look forward and focus our attention on the value of the pier in our future. If value can be found in stories of the past, it is our duty to make sure those unforgettable moments can be shared with our children and grandchildren. It is with this focused effort, we must step into immediate action to restore, revive, and reopen the Holden Beach Fishing Pier.
It will take time, effort, and a united front to accomplish these goals. Nevertheless, if we declare the value of our past memories in our hearts, then the dividend of our investment and return on the work we've done will live on in the memories of our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will determine the quality of our future and the value of our children's memories, based on what we accomplish. By restoring, reviving, and reopening the Holden Beach Pier, we can ensure that future generations will enjoy this historical location for fishing, story-telling, sunrise services, the polar plunge, and a stunning landscape for wedding and family photos, just as we have.
